Have you ever wanted to know how to add an extra $2,000 to your income each and every month?
It’s easier than you think! All you need is a list of clients, their birthdays, a few simple vouchers and an irresistible offer that they can’t refuse. Yes it’s known as Birthday Marketing. (And just to let you know, the key word here is irresistible offer, but I’ll get to that later).
When I had my first ever beauty salon I was slowly growing my business and customers each and every month. It wasn’t a huge salon – (we started with only 65 clients and a staff of 4), so that meant finding customers and filling appointments to keep my lovely girls busy and also to keep a steady income flowing in as well..
But I needed to ramp things up and generate a bit more income. That’s when I received an email from my marketing mentor with 3 very basic birthday letters that we could copy and send out to our clients.
So I thought what the heck, I think I’ll give this a go. My clients will really love it and it also a nice way of rewarding and thanking them for being loyal clients.
So after printing the vouchers mailing them off with the letters we got started and the feedback from our clients was awesome. But…..yep…….. there’s always a but…I felt the response in redeeming the vouchers was a little on the OK side, and I knew we could do better so I upped the original voucher from $10 to $20
Well as you guessed it! The clients really valued the $20 birthday gift over the $10, and the response doubled. They used their vouchers on higher priced treatments from the salon menu.
Now you think I should have been happy with that but I still felt there was room for improvement.
So I thought why not add an offer to really tantalize our birthday girls.
The birthday letter already contained
- the Birthday letter
- the $20 voucher
- the salon menu and now
- and the irresistible offer
But the offer wasn’t just your normal special, but one that had several treatments bundled together at an already awesome price. Our birthday girls could use their voucher on that irresistible offer and I also matched the birthday voucher and took another $20 off.
That’s what I mean by IRRESISTIBLE OFFER. And that’s when our Birthday Marketing really took off.
This is how we added an extra $2,000 income per month to our business. That worked out to be $24,000 per year. That was 8 years ago, and know that it would be even higher now.
It’s not always about the hard sell and the idea is to reward your clients and celebrate their birthday month. I did say in the offer that our ladies were free to use their voucher on whatever their hearts desired.
This is an important step as it allows your birthday girl off the hook so to speak. Not all clients may want the offer and after all it’s totally up to them as what they would like to use their voucher it on.
But the main thing is that our clients really loved the whole birthday vouchers and it became not only a lovely celebration for our clients but also a fun thing to do with our staff as well. And the return on investment for our little salon was totally worth it.
